South Asian Inspiration Board

This combination of colors always draws oohs and ahhs from guests.  The colors together create a luxe rich ambiance for any bride.  The bridal lehenga with the paisley designs are show stopping.  The elegant cake and white hydrangea and candle centerpieces play off the bright colors used in lighting.  Last but not least, the floral mandap, which we are seeing more and more of.  Brides, share your photos with us and we can feature an inspiration board from your events.

Their flair for uniqueness has even caught the attention of Indian fashion designer Tarun Tahiliani who had Symbol Photography do a shoot in the busy streets of Delhi this past winter.

Not only being a male/female team does it lend itself to capturing moments that can sometimes be hidden from view, but also two very different perspectives. Brendan’s partner shoots from a very different perspective and that convergence of styles gives a memorable and holistic view to any wedding day.

Brendan from Symbol Photography has a long standing history with Indian culture. ‘Not only have I’ve been to India a multitude of times, but I was also married there. You can’t really appreciate the full picture of India until you stop being a tourist and start having to do business there. That’s the real nitty gritty that gives insight into the real culture there. Something you can’t get being just a tourist’.

2012 was a banner year for Symbol Photography. And they have set their sights even higher in 2013-2014 seasons. ‘We never rest on our laurels, we promise to push our own limits for each and every event we photograph. We were lucky enough to photograph some amazing couples here in the US and also in India and plan to continue that tradition into 2013 and 2014, we have another fashion shoot in Udaipur and also a wedding in Jaipur that we are very excited about’.

Wedding Inspiration Board: Hunter green, Teal & Lavender

South Asian Wedding Inspiration Board

Welcome to the first of our weekly inspiration boards!  We are pulling color combinations based on the popular colors for the wedding season reported by wedding decor companies as well as Pantone’s colors of the year!  Our first board is perfect for a spring wedding, it has a hint of the rich winter colors with bright spring colors.  The rich deep hunter green saree blouse with kundan jewelry compliments the light, soft lavender tulips.   We love the complimentary bridal henna design on our bride’s hands and the mint colored reception lehenga.

Wedding heels

Wedding heels

Good morning,

It’s been a while since I’ve updated you on my wedding planning.  The next few items on my to do list are finding shoes for the big day!  I’ve searched and narrowed it down to a few, but would love your help in picking the perfect wedding heel to walk down the aisle.  I’ve tried on most of these heels and think that they would look great with my wedding outfit.  I chose mostly gold and blingy heels, but would love a red pair.  Sadly, I couldn’t find a non-strappy red pair that I loved.  Also,  I needed a pair without straps as I will have to take my shoes off once I get up to the mandap.

Perfect wedding shoes

Choosing the perfect wedding heels

Wedding season is coming up soon and while most of the major items are checked off your list, there are still some small details that are left. If finding your wedding shoes is still on your list, let us help you with a few insights from newlyweds before you shop. If you are a Hindu bride, you will wear your perfect wedding shoes walking up the aisle but will have to take them off before you enter the Mandap. That being said, we have too often seen brides walk up the aisle and then stop and awkwardly look for someone to hold on to so she can take her shoes off or have a bridesmaid come to the rescue and take their shoes off for them.

wedding shoes, shos for wedding, bridal shoes, wedding heelsSave yourself the awkward pause and buy your wedding shoes without ankle straps or zippers.  Buy shoes you can slip right out of.  If you really have your heart set on a strappy pair of heels, other options and notes that we have gathered from brides is that they had pretty shoes for pictures, but walked down the aisle barefoot, and others wore gold flats as they walked in.

For the reception, shoes that are comfortable and support you are important because you are going to be on your feet most of the night. While you are going to choose shoes that work with your wedding clothes, you can have fun with it and find a great pair that compliments your outfit, if you have a gold reception outfit, try bright fuchsia shoes for a pop of color.

You definitely want to break in your shoes before the big day. Practice wearing your shoes and walking in your shoes often. The last thing you’ll want and the end of the night is aching, blistery feet.  If you are not used to platform heels, then consider shoes that you are used to walking in. There are tons of gel cushions and padding that can make you heels a little more comfortable too. wedding shoes, shos for wedding, bridal shoes, wedding heels

Another important test for your wedding shoes is to try on your wedding outfit and reception outfits with the shoes. Make sure you are happy with the length of your outfits with your heels. Also, if you choose sky high heels, practice walking a lot to make sure your heels don’t catch in the lining and rip the bottom of your wedding outfit.

Of course your wedding shoes should be unique and special for your big day, but it can get costly if you have you heart set on Jimmy Choos or Manolo Blahniks. Sites like DSW, Endless, Piperlime, Zappos and 6pm have great brands at discount prices. Also, think about the style of the shoe and possibly being able to wear them again if you want to stretch your dollar.
