As I find myself in the shoes of a Bride to be, I was encouraged by some of my colleagues to share my wedding planning process with you so that I can help you through the process. So before we get into the planning, I need to share the proposal 🙂
Santosh and I met 3 years ago when we were both in the bridal party at my cousin’s wedding. We started talking the day of the rehearsal and continued that night and every night since then. As corny as it sounds, we knew from the moment we met that this wasn’t going to be your average rodeo. We had something. Santosh lives in New York and is a New York City sports fan and urbanite through and through. I live in Massachusetts and am a wedding aficionado, nature loving New England gal. As different as we are, we balance each other.
We get to see each other on the weekends in between our hectic schedules. When I drive down to New York, he is in charge of our weekend plans. When he comes up to visit me, I plan out the weekends. We always plan our day at breakfast and for the first time- he had made plans when visiting me! It seemed like suspicious behavior, but I went along with it.
We end up at the botanical gardens on a hot 95 degree day. We walked around and he was all about taking pictures (suspicious behavior #2). There happened to be a wedding at the gardens so we started talking about our future as we left. We drove around the park and found a surprisingly shady spot under a tree. We had a yummy picnic lunch and enjoyed the water view from our blanket. I started to doze off and Santosh woke me up and started talking about our relationship. I thought “wait is this it? Is it really about to happen?” I wish I could get a do over and record everything he said, but we have the rest of our lives for him to remind me (wink, wink).
He got on one knee and asked me to marry him! I was grinning ear to ear. Side note, I had been waiting for this for some time, so I wasn’t going to make it easy for him. So I said I’ll put it on and said “I’ll think about it” ☺
Our day didn’t end there. This man had plans and I was already impressed. We got back to my apartment and he told me we had to be ready for dinner at 6:30 because he had a car picking us up for dinner. As I got in the car there were flowers waiting for me along with wine, cheese and crackers for the drive. We drove an hour and a half to a farm to table restaurant that I had been dying to try.
We sat outside and watched the sunset before we headed in for dinner. On our ride home, we stopped off at another place for dessert and a drink. As I was enjoying my dessert I just realized what an amazing moment it was, I had a succulent dessert, a stunner of a ring and most importantly my Mr. Man! It’s only going to get better from here!
